Dress Code at South Fort Myers High School


Facial Masks
Facial masks covering the nose and mouth are required on the bus, in classrooms, and during all transitions to and from locations in the building including arrival and dismissal, cafeteria, classrooms, and hallway class changes.  Cloth and medical style disposable masks are acceptable.

*All masks must comply with the approved school dress code guidelines and as presented by The School District of Lee County and found on district communicative resources.*


No student will be permitted to wear clothing that creates/causes disturbance in the learning environment.
 To be in compliance with the dress code for South Fort Myers High School is the responsibility of each student to follow general guidelines to ensure that South Fort Myers High School students are appropriately dressed for school. 

Shirts & Tops:

  • Tops must be long enough to be tucked in and to remain tucked in when arms are raised above the head (no bare midriffs)
  • Back and stomach must be covered at all times
  • Strapless, low-cut clothing, halters, thin-straps, tube-tops, tank tops are not allowed
  • Tops may not be see through
  • Shirts are not permitted to include any of the following: alcohol, drugs, tobacco, profanity,or defamatory/insulting visuals

Jeans, Shorts, Leggings, Skirts & Dresses:

  • Pants with any size holes, tears, rips, etc. above the knee where skin can be seen or is showing are not acceptable 
  • Skirts, dresses and shorts must be 3 inches from the knee including splits
  • Pants and shorts must be worn at the waist at all times
  • Leggings may not be see through

Other:

  • No Pajamas or slippers
  • No Blankets or pillows
  • No Headwear (such as hoods, hats, bandanas, wraps, etc)
  • Any gang-related material is prohibited
  • Shoes must be worn at all times

The final decision as to whether an item is appropriate for school rests with the school administration.

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that any and all clothing items, including masks, are appropriate for school. For more details please read the Lee County School District's Dress Code that follows below. Thank you.





 

The purpose of the Dress Code is to encourage students to focus on the learning process without any distractions of unsuitable dress and grooming.
Students shall maintain a clean, orderly appearance at all times.

LEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENT DRESS CODE


The responsibility for the personal appearance of the student rests with the parent/guardian and the student. Personal appearance shall not detract from the educational process. The following establishes the minimum acceptable standards for student dress to be interpreted and enforced by the administration or designee.

  1. Facial masks that cover the nose and the mouth are required for all students while on school campus; including school bus and any school property and school-managed locations. All masks must comply with the approved school dress code guidelines listed here and as presented by The School District of Lee County and found on district communicative resources.
  2. Shoes shall be worn at all times. Shower shoes and/or bedroom slippers are not permitted.
  3. Apparel shall be adequate in both length and coverage to be considered appropriate for school.
  4. Pants shall be worn fastened and at the waist.
  5. Altered clothing, i.e., cut-off jeans, pants with holes, tears, rips, etc., and/or ill-fitting garments are not acceptable.
  6. Shirts and blouses shall be appropriately fastened in accord with the design of that shirt or blouse. The length should extend beyond the waist level. Spandex (including leggings/shorts with like-spandex materials) or stretchy skirts are prohibited (not allowed).
  7. Transparent or see-through tops, bare midriff, strapless, or low-cut clothing, or tops that provide minimum coverage or are of a suggestive nature are prohibited (not allowed): halters, spaghetti straps, backless dresses or tops, tube tops, tank tops, muscle shirts, or any clothing which may be distracting are prohibited (not allowed).
  8. Any articles of clothing or jewelry that could likely cause injury, such as chains, rings, chokers, with or without spikes or studs, are prohibited (not allowed). Wallet chains of any length are prohibited (not allowed).
  9. Apparel, emblems, insignias, badges, or symbols that promote the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or any other illegal activity are prohibited.
  10. Apparel or symbols which may be gang related may not be displayed on a student’s person, locker, vehicle, or personal belongings.
  11. Gang related tattoos or other tattoos that may cause a substantial disruption, as determined by the administration, are prohibited.
  12. Neither headgear (hoods, hats, bandanas) nor sunglasses will be worn inside the building.
  13. Clothing with slogans or advertising that has a double meaning is prohibited.
  14. Shorts and skirts must extend beyond the end of the fingertips with arms extended downward and should approach the knee. No short shorts or running shorts are allowed.
  15. Prohibited adornments (piercings) include, but are not limited to, hoops or rings attached to the nose, eyebrow, cheeks, or lip.
  16. Pajama attire of any kind is not permitted.
  17. Long coats, including trench coats are not permitted inside the building.
  18. Blankets, pillows, gloves and/or stuffed animals are not appropriate for school.

THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO APPRAISE ANY CURRENT FASHION OR FAD AND DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL.
