Advanced Placement Courses

AP Information

The Advanced Placement (AP) program gives students the opportunity to participate in a college-level course to enrich their education and possibly earn college credit while still in high school. With this program, students are given the opportunity by Colleges and Universities to show mastery of college-level courses through an exam at the end of the school year. In addition, they can earn an extra 0.04 points per credit hour to the weighted version of their GPA.

AP Information and Summer Assignments

What is Advanced Placement?

  • AP courses are college level course offered in high school and reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses.
  • Students take AP exams in early May to measure their mastery of college work. A score of 3 or higher on an AP exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college. Check with your future college of choice to assess their individual AP acceptance requirements.
  • AP courses provide students with an opportunity to explore topics in depth, to do this, there is an expectation that students will spend more time engaging with course content outside of traditional classroom hours.
  • Students routinely engage in higher levels of critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of evidence from multiple perspectives.
  • Additional information about the AP program can be found here

If you need additional information you can access it through SFMHS's AP Google Classroom which can be accessed here https://classroom.google.com and use the class code vadarxm to join.
