Bag Policy at South Fort Myers High School Events

Notice for all events at SFMHS

(effective August 2018)

In order to increase the safety of our students, staff, and guests at athletic, school, and arts events, the School District of Lee County will no longer allow backpacks and other large bags/medium-bags-of-interest into stadiums, gymnasiums, school event locations, and theaters.

Backpacks and Large Bags No Longer Allowed at District Athletic Events

The District is taking this proactive approach in light of events of violence at high school football games in other parts of the state and around the nation.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to,:

* Book bags, backpacks, duffel bags or large purses
* Any item that could be used as a missile
* Cans/Bottles
* Coolers
* Fireworks
* Horns/Lasers
* Containers of uncategorized origin/structure
* Any container, purse, or container-of-interest deemed a possible risk to student safety

Any type of weapon on school property is still hereby strictly prohibited under board policy.

Any and all guests attending school-sponsored and school-location events may be subject to a search.

These changes implement policies similar to what the NCAA, professional sports teams (Like the NFL and NBA and NHL), large arenas and theaters require of their guests.
