What makes South Unique?


SFMHS has a unique 9th grade Freshman Success program that ensures the successful transition from middle school to high school. Grades are monitored by an assistant principal resulting in improved academic performance. We have the highest percentage of ninth graders receiving credit in the district.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): is a program that focuses on students in the academic middle with potential, who would benefit from support while taking advanced course work. To be in AVID, an application and interview must be completed.

Dual Enrollment & Early College Admissions:
Students have the opportunity to take advantage of taking college classes at Edison College and Florida Gulf Coast University. This allows students to earn college credits.


J.R.O.T.C. : SFMHS is in the top 8% of JROTC programs through-out the nation and the largest in Lee County. Out of our total school enrollment of 1600 students, we have 400 enrolled in Leadership.


Comprehensive Academy High School: SFMHS offers five unique academies. These academies offer students the opportunity to earn industry certification while still in high school. The academies include:

  • Building Construction, Drafting and Architecture
  • Business, Finance, Marketing, and Informational Technology
  • Communications: Journalism, TV Production, Yearbook
  • Engineering, Automotive and Manufacturing Technology
  • Leadership: ROTC
  • Medical, Veterinary Assistant, Medical Lab Assistant, Phlebotomy, CNA
  • Public Service, Fire Fighting, Pre-Law/Criminal Justice and Teacher Assistant
